dp* jewelry designs by diane petkoff showcases contemporary & chic styles that are completely original.

i like to start by using mixed media and a lot of imagination. by keeping myself from using mostly traditional supplies and techniques i can challenge my creative skills and allow the jewelry to evolve throughout the design process. this doesn't mean that i don't still use traditional methods, i just try to push the envelope to come up with something fresh and new.

i like to take my cue from colors & objects that i see in everyday life. i then translate those ideas into something that i feel is completely different and unique to my work. i think there is something to be said about being truly original.

i started my fascination with jewelry and beads when i was about 7 years old. my older sister had a tupperware container with all sorts of beads organized in the little compartments. it looked like candy to me and, well, i like candy.

fast forward about 12 years later and i found myself enrolled in the metals program at the university of illinois at urbana-champaign where i received a BFA in crafts. ( loosely translated that means i majored in jewelry design.)

crafts, cooking, rock n' roll, pretty much anything that i can make myself is what keeps my creative juices flowing.

after living in the great city of chicago for many years, i made a major life decision to pick up and move to austin, texas. besides being super sunny and warm, austin has an amazing sense of community and is very supportive of its local artists. i love it here.
